Nieminen, Henman win Zagreb openers
Zagreb, Croatia (Sports Network) - Sixth-seeded Finn Jarkko Nieminen and former top-10 star Tim Henman of Great Britain were among Monday's first-round winners at the inaugural Zagreb Indoors tennis event.
The lefthanded Nieminen came from behind to beat Italian Potito Starace 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, while an unseeded Henman charged past diminutive Frenchman Arnaud Clement 6-3, 6-3 on the carpet at Dom Sportova.
An upset came when Croatian wild card Marin Cilic cur down seventh-seeded Russian Igor Andreev 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. The 17-year-old Cilic is appearing in only his second ATP-level event.
One other opening-round bout saw rising Serbian Novak Djokovic drop Czech Robin Vik 6-1, 7-5.
This week's top seeds are Croatian Davis Cup hero Ivan Ljubicic and Spaniard David Ferrer.
The winner of this $390,000 post-Australian Open tournament will collect $53,335.
Tim will face Richard Gasquet next and hopefully he can repeat Doha's victory!
